Position Status: Part Time Regular (25 hours or less per week)
Position Summary: The children and student ministry director will provide direction and supervision to the vital ministries that involve children & students. Twenty hours a week will focus upon Student Ministry and five hours a week will focus upon Children’s Ministry.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Will provide direction to the Children’s Ministry through overseeing the Sunday morning Sunday school for children age three to eleven by 1) purchasing and evaluating curriculum for each age group, 2) recruiting and scheduling teachers for each of the classes, 3) providing the curriculum to the teacher in a time appropriate manner, 4) maintain a list of substitute teachers that will be able to fill in for those who cannot be there.
Will provide direction to the Children’s Ministry through overseeing the Sunday morning Children’s Church for children age three to six by 1) purchasing and evaluating curriculum for the group, 2) recruiting and scheduling teachers for each month, 3) maintain a list of substitute teachers that will be able to fill in for those who cannot be there.
Provide direction to several church wide children’s ministry events including but not limited to 1) Summer VBS, 2) Quarterly Children’s Activities, 3) Family Easter Celebration, 4) Family Advent Celebration.
Provide information in the form of articles, announcements, and flyers for upcoming monthly children’s events in the church.
Will provide direction to the Student Ministry through direct incarnational ministry by doing the following 1) being present in the Canton ISD Lunch room (junior high & senior high) on a weekly basis to establish relationships with the students, 2) purchase and evaluate curriculum for junior high and senior high Sunday school, 3) recruit teachers and adult team members to assist in the direct ministry with students, 4) establish and provide direct supervision to the Sunday evening Xtreme student ministry program.
Will provide direction to the Student Ministry through overseeing summer programs for the students including by not limited to 1) Summer programming, 2) UMArmy, 3) Big House, 4) Summer Camp.
Will provide direction to the Student ministry through overseeing special events such as 1) Fifth Quarters, 2) Lock In’s, 3) Senior Sunday.
Provide information in the form of articles, announcements, and flyers for upcoming student ministry events in the church.
Attend weekly staff meetings giving input and demonstrate attitude of team player. Also attendance at other called staff meetings/retreats.

First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville currently has a part-time (20-30 hours per week) position open for Director of Children’s Ministry. Salary: approximately $20,000 annually. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and administering a comprehensive and expanding educational ministries program for children (infant through sixth grade) of the church and surrounding community, as well as supervising staff members and volunteers involved in the ministries.
